To help? What's wrong?

These individuals are likely a few years over 20 earning in excess of 50% of their base pay. In most cases over 25 years on Active Duty. Likely by exception, they all have at least a Masters Degree and a skill set that will replicate their active duty pay.

They have been preparing for this, and many have few months of saved vacation as well.

I think they'll be OK as a population

Scott,
You are right that most all will be in great shape with the experience, education, and preparation. I am year group 1995, so most of these would be around my peer group. My brother is year group 1992 and is still active duty but making his plans, so I see his process. I got out in 1999 and have been in industry since in both operations and as an executive. My business partner and I (also year group 1995) are building an assessment platform which will help transitioning military professionals get slotted into the right jobs as they make that move into the civilian sector. And our focus is exclusively on overseas senior management roles. I know that most everyone can find a job, but the trick will be helping them find the right job.

Diverse networking and mentoring are both an important part of the process.

I agree with your assessment on both counts. I coach others looking for career changes and think both aspects are essential.
