First step to any promotion, civilian or military is to do you current job well.

Just remember to learn what doing the job means as a Navy officer. It may be much the same ot it may be somewhat different.
Be yourself, and remember where you were and what you thought about officers.

Capt (Join to see) - Integrity is key, respect and take care of your staff. If you support them, and encourage their development they will support you and the mission.

Promotion to O-2/3 is a TIG requirement along with a "promotable" status on your FITREP. You don't board until going up to O-4 which the flow point is around 9 years. So make sure you're doing a great job in which good paper will result. A number of O-2/3 jobs are plums for the best.

You get promoted for breathing. Doing well and getting that annotated on your fit rep. Will help you down the road. There are bonuses of you get department head on your first look (swo) as anything else that might be challenging due to the long trainning pipeline.
