I want to pick some brains out there. I am a proud 36B in a budget analyst position for the SPO of an ESC. Anybody know what I'm talking about and if you do, can you explain my function to me? I'm tired of random tasking and want to be mission-relevant.

SPC Turnbow,

I applaud you for asking this question and can understand why you asked it. There's a big difference between what we learn in AIT and how we go about applying it when we get to our unit.

You might want to try contacting other 36Bs directly, since many of them might not see this thread. You can do a search for "36B" in the search bar to find others with your MOS, then network with them.

Whatever the result, I encourage you to be patient. Sometimes newer Soldiers aren't utilized right away as much as those who've been around a while, but rest assured that the others probably put their time in doing random taskings before you arrived.

Good luck, and I look forward to seeing more of you around the discussion boards!

A budget analyst with a SPO will usually assist with DTS, GTCC, GPC and be an advisor to the SPO. The CG will give that section so much funds to manage and you should assist with ensuring they utilize the funds wisely IAW laws and regulations. You should be compiling a spend plan IAW your SPO guidance and compile up a timeline on if they are on course with their spending for each quarter. There is a lot you can do, but the big question is if they will utilize you for what you are there for. Most section do not know what your main function is, so they utilize you to fill tasks and details and have an officer manage that sections funds or just allow the G8 to tell them how much money they have spent. Get with your local unit G8 or S8 for assistance or guidance.

Please don't take this as disrespect, but if you're on here and looking for advice in this matter...I am assuming that you've already talked to your branch manager to maybe switch MOS's to something similar but more mission essential. A few years back you would have been highly overloaded at a larger base of operation over in a crappy country....bt with all this downsizing....your job is just kid of irrelevant. Reclass man!
