Just routed my commissioning package earlier this month for Intel officer. The selection board convenes on 15 September. Wish me the best!

My family has a proud history of service from WWI on. I am the first officer in the family and at this point, my dad, my mom's brother and I are the only surviving veterans in the family. I hope that someday one of my 3 children will look towards the military for an opportunity but I would never push it on them. Duty and service are a responsibility and there are other ways besides the military to fulfill that responsibility, A career in the service is a calling.

I come from a family with a history of military service. My father, grandfather, uncles, cousins all were military. I began my career as a Private and ended up being the first in my family to serve as an Officer. My youngest son enlisted in the Army and did well. I'm thankful that he came back from Iraq in one piece and without any serious issues. To serve is an honor, and a career is indeed a calling. You have to have a calling to deal with all the silly stuff... the hurry up and wait, etc.

This isn't a "first officer in my family tree" story, but related. My dad retired as a LTC in the Army a bit over 30 years ago. He's always been proud that I made the Army a career, but I always chuckle at what he told me when I was promoted to LTC.
"Just remember, I have date of rank on you!"
Of course, when I became select I let him know by telling him that he didn't have DOR on me any more :)

CH (CPT) Heather Davis, he absolutely did. Funny thing is that I was never really interested in joining the military until I was in my Freshman year in college. I started checking out ROTC, one thing lead to another, and here I am.

LTC (P) Cudworth: I was at FT. Knox, this summer, and I was in awe to see the next generation of America's leaders, just like you had parents that served before them. In my humble opinion it is those that come from generations that have served, these are our combat force multipliers that are sold out for God and Country. I am in awe of the quality of fellow brothers and sisters that I have met on Rally Point. I thank each and every one of you, and especially for those that are transparent and provide mentorship for the next generation.
