How is the housing for civilians at Joint Base Anacosta-Bolling?

I've taken a civilian position on Bolling AFB starting in July. I'll probably be living alone for the first year while I settle in and then have the family move up. Unfortunately, I know nothing about the dc metro area. Any advice, pointers, etc?
As a reservist, can I access on post resources like the housing office and such?

Live in Springfield. Traffic is 25-35 min in the morning and safer and your family will be able to get around and not be stuck in traffic during the day

It's a bit overwhelming moving cross country for the first time as a civilian. I'm planning a trip at the end of the month to get the lay of the land, but I'm not sure how much I'll be able to get done in a week.
Any other recommendations?

Depends on your budget and family needs. I have friends that live in old town Alexandria and they pay around $3000 plus per month for an apartment(1100 sqft) with low quality schools, but the metro is super convenient. Fairfax(Springfield, Annandale, Burke) are a bit cheaper and more spacious without much of a loss in traffic time and the schools are the best in the nation. Woodbridge is much cheaper, but you will have a much longer commute due to traffic(not worth it). Maryland and DC have pockets of high crime so be careful if that is your choice.
