I joined in 2003 and my Recruiter was awesome, told me the good and the bad sides of the Army, I believe I was well prepaired for training and left as an E-3. I recently came off Recruiting detail and 90% of my recruits still keep in touch with me, telling me about promotions and achievements etc. I just want to know how others experiences were with their Recruiters.

I too had a great recruiter. He made sure to put everything on the table. Even went out the of the way to find a recruiter in another station that had the same MOS I was looking at the let me talk to him to get some knowledge of what the job was like within my MOS.

I heard and saw the same thing. When I came home after AIT and was put on my hometown recruit detail, one of the new recruiters working out of the office was stretching the truth so bad that I looked at my recruiter and asked to correct the recruiter so that the recruit understood what he was about to get into.

I learned to like my recruiter later in my career after he and I got to know each other better but that lying skunk sure hoodwinked me when he recruited me. I was a young pup with a girl on my arm and a house that needed buying. He came into the picture and promised me everything that I needed from my enlistment to the bonuses they would pay for certain MOS's. I went in as a Medic and came out a Artilleryman working in the FDC. My $2000 bonus promised to me after I graduated from Basic Training was a split bonus with half after I got done with AIT and the other half paid on my enlistment anniversary two years later. So damn near no girl, damn near no home, no MOS Medic, and now I was an Artilleryman. I think now a days I could get my contract cancelled after this fella stretched the truth as much as he had. I guess recruiting during the cold war was a tough occupation so they told you what you wanted to hear and away I went.

I remember mine. He was pretty new when my school councilor got his number for me. I'll give him credit, he did a good job and didn't really hide anything. I didn't care for his supervisor because he's the reason I ended up stuck into a job I didn't want but my recruiter himself wasn't bad.

I do not know how to answer. My recruiter was pretty new. He did all he could for me, but I realize he had others to tend to. Being that I am not a young recruit, I had many complex questions regarding pay, benefits, and my MOS, that he could not answer, or took very long in doing so. I heard different stories from different people with respect to deterrence of student loans, being a reservist while on active orders or being as full time as possible, only to be told that was not a possibility after I left my civilian job to have capacity to go Full Active Duty Reserves. I don't blame him, I think it was a time and workload issue, simply not being able to dive into all the details all the time for each new recruit.
