Does the using the M4 carbine change the manual of arms significantly?

Yes it does. Position of attention and parade rest is with the M4 resting on the palm of the hand, magazine well away from the body, opposite of right shoulder arms. When going to parade rest with an M4 the weapon does not move, the soldier simply moves to the position of parade rest.

That looks like it. Through me for a loop. I was taught Drill and Ceremony with an M4. When I was a private I was asked to participate in a memorial day ceremony, which we used M16s for. I didn't know the difference. Thankfully it was caught in the rehearsal!
