You never knew what strings a logistician could pull. Each one I knew could work magic in different ways.

You're right about that. They could work some magic when the situation called for it.

PO1 Brian Austin - Agreed, whether it was ordering Class IX, acquiring good stuff, or connections, as an IT guy there was always a tit-for-tat relationship with my logisticians.

Food! A good group of Mess Management Specialists (now Culinary Specialists) could make a big difference. If you were in good with the MS's shipboard life was much more bearable.
While contracting in Iraq some of the Army cooks worked some pretty good magic with what they had to work with. Props to them!
Could also get some pretty good stuff in return for fixing the Mess Sergeant's laptop, providing him internet or a DSN (formerly Autovon) line. :)

Good food always puts a smile on a hungry Marines face. We has 1 cook at our small FOB. We had A rats twice daily. He would mix and match the meals and prepare them his way. He made general tsao's chicken taste like something we would get at a restaurant at home. he would even bbq for us sometimes.
I must say mail is a easy second

SSgt Dan Montague I agree. Something other than C Rations were a treat and something to look forward to.

Sgt Jay Jones - Navy has 3 Variations of SOS, Chipped Beef, Dried Thin Sliced Corned Beef and Leftover Chili (Usually served over toast with fried eggs during Midrats) I love all 3 Variants.
