Had an amazing experience last Saturday (5/31/14), volunteering for the Habitat for Humanity - Bucks County, PA - "The House the Valor Built" project.

The project involves the creation of a townhouse with 4 units, one of which is being awarded to a severely disabled war veteran. The company I work for donated $5,000.00 to the project, which enabled us to form a team of 5 people for one day's worth of work.

For the day that we worked, the job was to frame out the second floor. Our ragtag team of NON-experts spent an awkward hour getting used to the measuring, cutting, framing, etc., but after that time, we were cranking along - thanks to a great coach on-site.

If you haven't had a chance to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, I strongly recommend it. It was a very rewarding day, and the cause couldn't be greater! ZERO experience necessary. That said, I left the project with some REAL skills and experience.

Thank you for reading this.

Awesome. My old unit in PA used to work with non-profits to include Habitat for Humanity. We cleared the field for them.

Thank you for sharing your story. My family has a great appreciation for those who volunteer in their respective communities. Great work I see in the house building too.

I like volunteering too. I'm not good at building homes but I will find other ways to help out. We teach our kids that volunteering rewards those who are not able to do the job themselves in some situations. Its the value and honest feeling knowing that you made a difference in someone's life that really means the most.

Great post. I've wanted to do some volunteering but haven't had much time due to my job. Now that I'm retired, I'm going to make it a goal to donate my time. Habitat for Humanity is an excellent organization to go with.
