What really grinds my gears is that we are heading back to a place where we spilled blood and lost some real Hero's fighting for Mosul already, pisses me off more than you will know!

In 2003 when we crossed into Iraq, we went in with a focused mission. The guidance was clear and we continued to move across the country. I remember when the 101st Division Main set up in Mosul. The Division controlled a great deal of the north. If we really wanted to beat ISIS in Mosul then we would. Beating them is not the issue, what are going to do with it once we take it, again.
You are right CSM, we lost a lot of great men on the road to Mosul and I hate the idea of having to consider the possibilities of going back.

Respectfully,

ISF/Coalition is already attacking Mosul. There aren't many updates on it. Their main command post was blown up last month. Preperations are already finished I believe?

Kurds aren't taking part of the northern offensive, so I hear, because it would conflict with the Iraqi government's interest (picture Russia's attack on Berlin, then the split of Berlin). Although Kurds are much more responsible in war than Russians.

I think it's going to be a full scale invasion. They will occupy the surrounding towns, until they can engulf Mosul from all sides. There will be so many booby traps and jihadists posing as civilians. There's really no good way to do it. Iraq won't absolutely level the city because it's still their responsibility.

It will take longer than 24 hours, that much I know.

CPT Joseph K Murdock - That's what I thought you meant, thank you for clairfying for me.

You are correct. Mosul is very iconic to ISIS, just as their attempt to conquer Kobane [would have] been. They kept launching bodies at Kobane, despite being defeated, because it attracted so much social media/general media attention.

Mosul still has a significant population, it will take a hell of a lot more than 200 ISIS fighters to keep the civilians from fleeing (escaping) during the battle. Since it's the "Caliphate's Capital," losing Mosul will hurt them more than it would if they hid/retreated. I think they will have quite a few surprises for us. Hard to say, but they are running out of places to retreat to.

A loss of Mosul is a loss of Iraq.

Either way, we want Mosul one way or the other.

The more I think about it, ISIS might even go as far as "giving up" Mosul if they've managed to find a strategy to sneak-attack Baghdad by [quietly] fleeing Mosul during an impending siege.

Baghdad is much more symbolic, and a successful occupation would probably legitimize their presence as a 'Caliphate' to Islamic extremists worldwide.

As I type this there's a massive battle outside of Baghdad's outskirts. It's clear ISF doesn't have routes secured, and it's not unreasonable to imagine Baghdad being lost.

Get the M1A1 abrahms tanks back from Hezbollah(You wonder why we even gave them to Iraqi in the first place never thinking its a puppet of Iran and now Iran can study and reverse engineer them soon) and we keep them since they will be broke dick soon since I am sure the Iraqi BSB people at the front will be wiped out soon and the tanks will not be working properly or at all. We can man them and maybe so can some Pesh Merga if we can just rein in the elements that attack Turkey so Turkey won't bomb the militias in Iraq. This picture makes me sick!
