Do you have to take an APFT 30 days before School?

I'm about to head to BOLC and there is some concern as to whether I need to take a PT TEST 30 days within my report date at Fort Lee. Is there any validity to this? I took a PT test in OCT and passed with a 285. Is this required for all NG soldiers?

It is a pretty standard requirement, sir. If you scored a 285, you have little to worry about.

1LT (Join to see) - If it is just you, it shouldn't take more than 45 minutes or so. Most of the time on a PT Test is spent standing in lines. If it is a unit PT test, then it is on the Training Schedule anyway.

As it is a requirement for lower enlisted sir, I would recommend finding the time. Lower enlisted will respect the fact that you took the time to meet the standard they are expected to.

SFC (Join to see) - Roger that! I just wanted to make sure I head to do it as it'll require me to take time off from work or during a weekend now to take it. I'm all about leading from the front and setting the example. The Joe's notice when the COC is either not present or sporting ACU's during a PT test.

Its pretty standard. Our Battalion does one at 90-60-30, this way they know that they are sending someone that can pass, and usually they will raise the standard. Need 60's in each event, our unit makes you get 70's, always plus 10, this way you know that the service member will pass once they get there.

But that is unit practice to ensure someone is not in danger of failing, not necessarily a reg. From what I have seen (and again, things change so my knowledge may be obsolete now), most schools will either make you do an APFT on arrival therefore eliminating the need to have one on record within 30 days, or just require a valid APFT (within the last 6 months).

My only issue is that I'll need to take time off of work before I leave to get this accomplished...therefore if I don't need to do it I'd rather not.

I don't know the actual requirements (probably change from unit to unit, anyway).
I could see you unit wanting one prior to sending you...as for BOLC, they aren't going to turn you away - every school I went to had a PT test as part of the curriculum.
