Have you worked with people who didn't want to share knowledge so they could be considered "the man?"

Good leaders are always training their replacements; if you cannot be replaced you cannot be promoted.

"Never be irreplaceable-- you will never get promoted!"
Something that was told to me as I entered the I.T. field.

Knowledge is power. It is more powerful when you are the only who has it. Therefore the weak want to make sure that no one else can be a threat.
However, when knowledge it shared, the team will almost always out perform the uniformed by a very wide margin.

Capt Don Porter i agree when the whole team is knowlegdeable we are stronger and the mission can continue. I have also been part of units that did not cross train soldiers so in some instances the mission was at a stand still if soldiers went on leave or god forbid got hurt and couldnt work

Yes I have. When working as a Technician other techs didn't want to share information because they thought being the only one to know how to do something made them more valuable. I was the exact opposite. When I attained Master Tech status I tried to ensure that every tech working for me had the same knowledge as me. Being the only one who knew how meant when something went wrong they called you in. I enjoyed my free time so I always pushed my techs knowledge to be equal to my own.
