According to the enlisted promotion reg your promotion can not be held up because of waiting on a ceremony. But since your orders were cut you are a SFC and are being paid as one so technically you were promoted and aren't waiting on the ceremony. It is generally considered to be in bad taste to pin yourself though and you should wait until your commander actually pins you to wear it.

If I'm reading this correctly, the Command hasn't cleared up the Head Space and timing errors. I think the command is far more guilty of "bad taste" than the SFC.

I literally promoted a Staff Sergeant to Gunny on the Tarmac after disembarking a plane in Okinawa because that was THE ONLY TIME I could guarantee the entire Platoon would be in the same place for the next two weeks. The Battalion Commander and Sgt Major concurred, and only half jokingly asked me why we didn't pin on the rocker during the flight.

Wait for the promotion ceremony, you are getting paid either way.

Yes that would make it wrong, one does not promote oneself. In addition promotion to SFC is an important moment as an NCO (without dismissing other NCO promotions), you move from a junior NCO into the senior ranks. Wait till someone pins you and two it's not Feb 1st. Just saying.

Um yea it is. If he earned it and he gets orders that promote, you can wear it. There is nothing in the regs that say you must have a ceremony. Though I agree it would be in poor taste and may affect your future in disrespectful lyrics not giving that honor to your Comander.

Sra, not sure how it's in the Air Force but you CANNOT promote yourself and wear the rank ahead of your date of rank.
