Does growing up in an urban or rural area helped or hindered your performance in the military?

If rural is a town of 1,000 then my home town in Montana of 875 (at the time) was rural! LOL
It didn't hinder my performance but it sure left me at a loss a few times when faced with some of the discrimination and race topics that I had not had to deal with.

LOL!! TSgt David L. Prejudice, race, discrimination can be tough subjects; unless you've grown up with them. I don't know how you dealt with those subjects; but my guess is that you had no trouble with them.

SPC Margaret Higgins - most of the time I just played dumb (not too hard LOL) and kept my comments to myself. The topics were all covered during Basic so what I wasn't sure about was covered at least a little bit. I'm sure by know they spend a few days on the topics.

I am so glad that they taught those subjects in Basic Training.
And yes, TSgt David L., I am sure-and I hope and pray-that they spend a few days on those topics in Basic; nowadays.

Mostly rural. My class had 72 students and the district cover a large area.
Did it have an effect? I don't think so.
