My wife just made the alternate list for active duty JAG this year. She is still hopeful for the chance to make active duty or the opportunity to take a reserve commission. I know she's going to be in contact with her FSO and other local officers for more info, but I'm looking for input from any other JAG officers out there. What's next? What are her chances of still getting selected for active duty? Reserves? Input is appreciated.

I am no expert, just a retire Army Officer with a feeble opinion. It appears officers in highly specialized occupations like Doctors and Attorneys often leave when they are young, thus opening up positions that are vacated.

I'm not sure where she is in her career, but if she is still in school and could intern with them for the summer, that would help.

Dear captain, I would recommend your wife continue to apply for both Reserve Component (National Guard and the reserves), and continue her application active duty. Active duty sometimes is very hard to get into at this time due to the drawdown. If the reserves cannot guarantee her spot and are not actively working on her packet I recommend applying for the National Guard.
