I had a doctors appointment today at the Hampton Va. This was the worse doctor I have ever had.
I was told that they would not change my medications if I switched Va hospitals. Well this doctor did switch them. He just would not refill any of them. He told me he would refill my BP meds and that's it.
I would have to wait to get another primary care doctor to get my anti depressants refilled and my pain meds. He told me he doesn't believe in giving out pain meds and that I would have to see mental health to get my anti depressants refilled and it would take about two weeks to a month to get a appointment.
I went to patient avocat and spoke to them about him. To my surprise they had heard about him many times before. I had gotten and appointment with a doctor the gave me to be my new primary after going to patient avocat and when I was check in they had heard all the bad stories about this doctor and the nurse do not like working with him. How as vets do we get better doctors that care for us vets and not just pay checks?

Than can start by not referring you to assholes and executing a better battle handover of you. It's unfortunately my experience as a veteran that often change is one battle after another.

MAJ., Left active in 72, Some complained about VA .. it only became worse.. I started dealing with them 14 years ago with cancers, and heart disease.. Still fighting with them.. A NATION, a nation because people Fought for it, people Sacrificed for it, a nation because people DIED for it ! Yet we praise, over-pay and reward our politicians with the Best.. Our Nation.. Thank and Support our VETERANS, we earned it !!

You definitely need to see if you can get you another primary care doctor. The VA in my experience hasn't been very good to me either. Something has to be done for better service for Vets.

SSgt Bell I had an incident similar happen to me. The action that I took was 1st going to the patent advocate office and filing a compliant. Secondly I requested a new PCP (note that you can request it any time you are dissatisfied with your PCP). The PCP request must be a written request and that goes to the Chief of Medical Services whom works for the Director of the VA. Now keep in mind about your anti depressants you can call the 1 800 number that the VA has for mental health and get them refilled or go into the Emergency Room and see a Psych doctor there or you should be able to call and get a Psych appointment in two weeks. Lastly I work at the VA and hope this helps and don't take no for an answer. God Speed.
