This has been a large topic of discussion lately in my office. How do we incentivize our personnel to score about a 90% on their PT Test?
Overall the Air Force has approximately a 50% Excellent rate. But as it stands, the only reason people have to score Excellent is once-a-year testing. Some units give a day off, but is that truly incentive to get above a 90%?
There have been talks of giving people who score Excellent an advantage when it comes to Promotion. Whoever, a lot of people would view that as unfair when you equate profiles and the standards of the test itself.
I'm curious as to what your unit is doing and if it is working. If not, what could a unit do to incentivize Excellent?

Cpl Jeff N. - I agree. PT is required so that personnel are able to accomplish all missions assigned to the unit. It is part of your job, the same way that you keep your uniforms and equipment squared away.

Do well get promoted. Don't do well, meet your terminal rank. Why does everything need to incentivised? Does everyone really need a trophy? What would Gen Curtis Lemay say to that?

A trophy...no. A day off to spend time with loved ones or just relax and pursue one of your hobbies(for getting an excellent score)...why not? I don't think anyone can argue that time off is great for morale.
As to general Lemay, he would have probably took a deep drag off his cigar and said "PT...what's that?".

SSgt Josh Simonette Good comeback on Lemay. Gotta love that. But he won't give out a 72 unless all the B-36's were operational.

Why incentivize PT, that's only part of the expectations of severing in the military and too much emphasis is placed there. It has been my experience that when someone is great at PT they are praised even if their job performance is severely lacking. There are standards for a reason too much focus blows it out of proportion!
