I was just wondering what the general views of the RP family are when it comes to base access? At Leonard Wood it's open to anyone between a certain period of hours. Should that be taken away? Just think as long as someone has a clean record, they're allowed on. And we all know from past events just cause you have a clean record doesn't mean you have good intentions.

I've just always though that you should have to have a pre-initiated pass for things like graduations, or here on post you have to the community that lives out of the south gate, and the quickest way is through post (or else a 25-30 min ride around the base). Should people that aren't Military related have this kind of easy access?

Honestly, the way things are supposed to work on FLW currently (I have heard from a trusted source) that guards are supposed to ask the reason for coming on post. Without a valid, military reason for being on post, they are supposed to be turned away. This of course doesn't happen.

They do not have to have a valid Military reason. The post CG has opened the post to allow civilians to use the restaurants and visit the military museums on post.

I think it depends on the location and threat of hostility. I do think it should be tighter in the sense that when I go on base, I wish they would actually look at my ID instead of touching it to make sure its plastic and handing it right back while talking to the person behind them.

I wish I could explain the reasoning and process for access to Ft Huachuca, but it's not open to just anyone anymore and a "pass" is required for access. I don't know all of the ins and out, but everyone is "administratively checked" prior to entry, like back in the day... Temp passes and all... I assumed that most installations was going to this... Does anybody else have something different???

I can give you a break down of FLW, Msgt:

If you're a civilian with no DOD/Military relation (bct graduations, crossing through, visiting museum, basically whatever you want) you need just a driver's license that is clean (during daylight hours)

If it's after 21:00 then you need to get a pass where you actually have a background NCIC III check done on you and your passengers.

And then of course you have random vehicle inspections

You get your ID scanned and all but like I said, a clean record is all some with bad intentions needs to get on post.

SGT (Join to see) - Roger, All of what you mentioned I was aware of and that is what we USED to do... What I'm saying, is that if you do not have an authorized DoD ID Card, you can no longer access Ft Huachuca with just a drivers license, VA ID, State ID etc. You must get a pass even if it's a temp visit. All group visits have to be coordinated through the same process. The recurrent taxi's, some of the routine recurrent commercial traffic, etc can get individual company "cards" per each individual in the company, as it is ID'd to the individual and is scanned by the guard with their DL at entry like just the CAC and other Mil ID Cards. For instance, if I want a taxi to take me on post, and they have not got the individual company card issued for that driver, the taxi cannot take me on post with their DL until that individual gets one, and their name has to match the list given by the company they work for. (this includes a security b/g check before the card can be issued) They have to drop me off at the gate, and I have to find a way on from there (Retired and a DA Civ, so access for me is easy, and this actually happened to me! LOL! I could not sponsor the driver on, I would have to be driving the vehicle!!!). Anyway, I don't know all of the ins and outs, but this went into effect here about 2 months ago with a lot of construction and announcements prior to implementation to support it. And as I said, I thought it was DoD wide in light of the attacks on military installations... But I'm guessing that it's not?
