Unconfirmed report that Turkey just shot down Russian fighter jet. If true, how big of a game changer is this?

SSG Jeff Binkiewicz Uf this is true the situation becomes stickier in the region. When you put aircraft from several countries in a small box of airspace bad things may happen.

This is pretty foggy. There is a very high chance it didn't happen, but even if it did, and Russia knows they violated airspace this probably will not start a war.

IMO Putin will respond. He feels he has total control and will not want to lose that perception. Not enough to start a major conflict though.

I think that Turkey has had just about enough of it's airspace being violated.
The Russians were obviously doing it on purpose in order to try to intimidate them.

Rumours of a jet being shot out of the sky come amid heightening tensions between Russian president Vladimir Putin and the West.
A spokesman for Nato said it had so far received no reports of a plane being shot down."
