We work in one of the most stressful environments the United States can offer.  How do you deal with the day to day stress of being a service-member?

I exercise and find the greatest analgesic outside of God is physical fitness and the fact you are blessed to know that.

Kickboxing, time on the treadmill, mindless TV.
Just added a weekly massage about 2 months ago (highly recommended!).

Rotating out of command in less than 3 weeks. ;-)

I am a workaholic and if I allow myself I will blend work with home.  I have to make a conscious break, to realize that work will take care of itself.

The best change I have made is to change into my uniform upon arriving and then to change out of it when I leave.  That provides me with the separation I need.  I put on the uniform and all its obligations then I take it off and with it surrender same in favor of my family obligations.

Another thing I have done is to track tasks accomplished and assigned.  This provides two benefits:  I have a running total of my workload throughout the day and can use it to ward of GFIs that pop up.  At the end of the day I can reflect on what I have accomplished and move the uncompleted tasks over to the next day.

I run off stress.  My favorite activity is to run while watching a Hockey game.  I get the exercise and the enjoyment of the sport at the same time.

Keep a tablet with you at all times for when you have brilliant thoughts or when a task hits you.  This is more often done in the military than in the civilian sector, but track your thoughts as they occur and you will not feel that you are losing track of them.

Perspective:  Remember, we are a large Military.  Chances are, you can take 10 minutes to breathe and to reflect without the military falling apart.
