Specialist rank was used for specialized Mos finance clerk medical specialist. I came in army in the late seventies when they use specialist rank specialize 1977-1995

They did do away with it I believe in the late 90s, it was originally used for people who were not in combat type MOS's! Also, for those who were not in charge of troops, well we were always in charge of troops at one time or another!

I was all in combat MOS but needs to be a opening even if you have PLDC.

I was a SP5 for a whole month. They converted all SP5 and up to hard stripes in July 1985.
