CSM Julio Candelario enlisted in the United States Army on the 3rd of January, 1986 as a Fire Support Specialist (13F). He attended One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Charley Battery, 4th Training Battalion, Fort Sill, Oklahoma and retired on 30 August 2013 from the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation at Fort Benning, GA.

Command Sergeant Major for an Army Tactical Missile System capable Battalion; senior enlisted advisor to the commander and staff in matters pertaining over 536 Soldiers and noncommissioned officers; executes policies and enforce standards on the performance, training and conduct of all personnel; assists the commander on providing for the care, counseling and support of families in the battalion through the Family Readiness Group volunteer personnel; supervised, synchronized and coordinated for the deployment, redeployment, reintegration and reset of over 275 Soldiers within four batteries during Operation Iraqi Freedom; subject matter expert during change of command and change of responsibilities ceremonies.

Sergeant Major for the Field Artillery Training Center Detachment consisting of a Headquarters Battery, Service Battery and an Infantry Company. Advised the Commander on all matters related to enlisted personnel. Supervised three First Sergeant and the Detachment Staff personnel. mentored, trained and coached more that 250 Soldiers in the Detachment on the daily performance of their duties and responsibilities. Provided support to four training Battalions with over 10,000 Basic Combat Training Soldiers.
