The Army establishes The Army University - 7 July 2015

Today, Army University was officially launched!

This new program will provide the Force with a single point of contact for all Army education matters, and will address the educational needs of the Army while providing individual Soldiers and Civilians the opportunity to accomplish their own respective academic goals. Army University was made official by a proclamation signed by U.S. Army Chief of Staff Gen. Raymond T. Odierno, Secretary of the Army John M. McHugh and Sergeant Major of the Army Daniel A. Dailey.

The creation of Army University represents a revitalization of the Army's professional military education system and is the first major step in transforming the Army into the innovative force needed to build the Army of 2025 and beyond.

"The Army University is the next logical step in the continued professionalization of the Army that began with the creation of the All-Volunteer Force in 1973," said Gen. Raymond Odierno, the Army chief of staff. "This effort organizes all of TRADOC's existing educational programs into a single university structure to promote greater academic rigor, to improve internal integration, and to enhance external collaboration with many of the Nation's best universities and colleges."

Additionally, this effort provides a cost savings to the Army in tuition assistance and unemployment expenses, which improves a Soldier's ability to transition into quality employment opportunities after their service.

The Army University encompasses all U.S. Army Training and Command schools, provides the force with a single point of contact for all Army education matters and addresses the educational needs of the Army while providing individual Soldiers and civilians the opportunity to accomplish their own respective academic goals.

The purpose of Army University is to:
- Provide professional degree and credentialing opportunities
- Communicate the value the Army places on education
- Gain national recognition as an accredited educational institution
- Increase partnering with public and private universities
- Identify talent and integrate best practices across the education system

Did not even know about this. Sounds like a great initiative. I really like the aspect of creating one single hub form Army education transcripts. I curious to know how this program will help aid in TA exspenses for all Soldiers, it was mention in the article but didn't offer any details. More to follow in the upcoming months.

Here's to hoping we can get the courses across the entire spectrum transitioned over before we're in the year 2025. Skillport, annual and semi-annual safety courses, ATRRS, ALMS... it certainly would to convenient to have only one place for it all.

The Marine Corps University is a group of accredited higher-education schools at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia. It reports to the United States Marine Corps Training And Education Command. It was established on August 1, 1989 by General Alfred M. Gray, Jr., then Commandant of the Marine Corps.

Very good to see the Army get on board with the academic accreditation process. When you think of West Point you think great educational institution. It would be great to see other Army training centers perceived as such. Now hopefully much of the Army training a solider receives will transfer over to private and public colleges and universities in a more uniformly manner saving soldiers both time and or money in pursuit of their academic endeavors.

The real challenge will be getting them to synchronize the training and credits awarded for both Active Duty and Reserves. The way some of the courses are currently structured could potentially take a reserve member many years to earn full credit for a particular course. My recommendation is if a Soldier Member is training in a certain field, all orders should reflect the same time and funding to avoid any breaks or lack of continuity in education. Glad this has finally been approved.
